Cosmetic Skin
Concerns

Acne scarring

Acne scarring is a common condition that can result from severe acne or cystic acne. There are several treatments that can help to improve the appearance of acne scars and restore a more even skin tone. The most appropriate treatment will depend on the type and severity of the scars, as well as the individual’s skin type, and the patient’s preferences.

Some of the most common treatments for acne scarring include:

  • Chemical peels: Chemical peels use a chemical solution to remove the top layer of skin, revealing smoother, more even-toned skin underneath.
  • Laser therapy: Fractional laser therapy uses laser energy to stimulate collagen production and smooth out acne scars.
  • Dermabrasion: Dermabrasion is a procedure that uses a special tool to “sand” away the top layer of skin, revealing smoother, more even-toned skin underneath.
  • Subcision: Subcision is a procedure in which a needle is used to release the fibrous bands that are pulling down on the skin and causing depressions.
  • Fillers: Injectable fillers can be used to fill in indented acne scars and improve the skin’s texture and tone.
  • Punch excision: Punch excision is a procedure in which a small circular punch tool is used to remove the scar and the surrounding tissue is then sutured together.
  • Microneedling: Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled injuries in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing process. Microneedling leads to the production of collagen and elastin, which provide firmness and elasticity to the skin.

It’s important to note that these treatments are not a one-time solution and usually more than one session is needed to achieve optimal results. Also, it’s always recommended to consult with a board-certified dermatologist before starting any treatment.

Brown spots

Brown spots, also known as age spots or sun spots, can be found on exposed areas of skin, such as the face, arms, hands, and legs. These spots develop as a result of excessive exposure to the sun or UV radiation, which triggers an increase in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. Over time, the accumulated melanin results in the appearance of brown spots.

While many brown spots are not dangerous, it is important to have your spots checked by a dermatologist before having them removed. If the spot appears irregular, your doctor may suggest a biopsy. Some people seek cosmetic removal of brown spots, for which there are several options including but not limited to laser, cryotherapy, and chemical peels.

Buttock augmentation

Sculptra is a non-surgical, injectable treatment that works by stimulating the production of collagen, which can be used to enhance the appearance of the buttocks, by adding volume and contour to the area. This treatment is often referred to as a “non-surgical butt lift.” The effects of Sculptra typically develop gradually over time, as the body produces new collagen in response to the injections. Results typically last for two years and more than one treatment session may be needed. Ideal candidates are those who want to avoid risks of surgery or for those who do not have enough fat for fat transfer to the buttocks.

Chin augmentation

Chin augmentation with filler is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves injecting a filler material into the chin to improve its shape, size, and proportion. This can be used to enhance a weak or recessed chin, or to balance facial features.

The most common type of filler used for chin augmentation is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that is found in the skin and other tissues. HA fillers are soft and gel-like, and are usually injected into the chin using a fine needle. The procedure is usually performed in a doctor’s office. The effects of chin augmentation with filler are temporary and typically last 6-12 months, after which the filler will gradually break down and be absorbed by the body.

Double chin or submental fat

A double chin, also known as submental fat, is a common condition in which a layer of fat accumulates beneath the chin, causing the appearance of a “second chin.” This condition can be caused by a variety of factors, including aging, weight gain, genetics, and decreased skin elasticity. A double chin can affect both men and women and can be difficult to eliminate through diet and exercise alone.

Double chin is a common cosmetic concern and can be treated with a variety of non-surgical and surgical procedures. Kybella and fat removal with tumescent liposuction are two treatments that are used to improve the appearance of a double chin.

Kybella is an injectable treatment that is specifically designed to reduce the appearance of submental fat. It contains a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and helps to break down fat. During the treatment, Kybella is injected into the fat under the chin, where it works to dissolve the fat cells. Over time, the body eliminates the destroyed fat cells, resulting in a more defined jawline and a reduction in the appearance of a double chin.

Fat removal, also known as liposuction, is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess fat from the chin and neck area. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the skin, and a thin tube (cannula) is inserted to suction out the excess fat. The choice between Kybella and fat removal will depend on several factors, including the extent of the double chin, the individual’s skin elasticity, and the desired outcome. Your doctor can help to determine which treatment is best for your individual needs and goals.

Earlobe surgery or enhancement

Earlobe surgery, also known as earlobe repair or earlobe reduction, is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to correct a variety of earlobe problems, including:

• Torn earlobes- caused by heavy earrings or trauma to the earlobe

• Stretched earlobes- caused by wearing heavy earrings or gauges over time

• Split earlobes- caused by trauma or aging

Earlobe surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia and involves repairing or reshaping the earlobe using sutures. The procedure usually takes 30-60 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.

Alternatively, your doctor may decide that earlobe filler is a better option for you. Earlobe filler is a cosmetic procedure that involves injecting a soft tissue filler into the earlobe to add volume and definition. The procedure is typically performed to restore volume that has been lost due to aging or to enhance the shape of the earlobe.

The most common type of filler used for earlobe augmentation is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that is found in the skin and other tissues. HA fillers are soft and gel-like, and are usually injected into the earlobe using a fine needle. The procedure is usually performed in a doctor’s office. The effects of earlobe filler are temporary and typically last 6-12 months, after which the filler will gradually break down and be absorbed by the body.

Eyelid concerns

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This procedure is usually done to improve the appearance of aging eyes, to restore a more youthful and alert appearance, to remove drooping skin that interferes with vision, or to correct conditions such as baggy or puffy eyelids. The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about one to two hours to complete. The results are typically long-lasting and can greatly improve a person’s appearance and self-confidence.

Filler Complications

Fillers are injectable treatments used to add volume to the face and smooth out wrinkles. Complications from filler injections are relatively uncommon, but they can occur. Some of the most common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. In rare cases, fillers can cause more serious side effects such as infection, allergic reactions, skin necrosis or breakdown, and even blindness. It is important to choose a highly qualified injector, discuss your medical history and expectations with them, and follow their aftercare instructions to minimize the risk of complications.

Gummy Smile

A gummy smile is when a large portion of the gums is visible when smiling. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, jaw shape, and the position of the upper lip. There are several cosmetic treatments available to correct a gummy smile, including botulinum toxin injections. The best treatment for a gummy smile depends on the individual’s specific needs and desired results.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating, even when not physically active or in a warm environment. Treatments for hyperhidrosis include antiperspirants, medications, and botulinum toxin injections. The best treatment depends on the severity of the sweating and the individual’s personal preferences and medical history.

Jawline Slimming

Jawline slimming is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the appearance of a wide or heavy jawline. The procedure involves injecting a substance, such as botulinum toxin, into the masseter muscle to weaken it and make it appear smaller. This treatment can be effective in improving the appearance of the jawline and creating a more balanced and harmonious facial profile.

Lines and Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles are a natural part of aging and can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle. There are several cosmetic treatments available to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, including dermal fillers, Botox, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microneedling, and face lifts. The best approach depends on the individual’s specific needs, goals, and the severity of their lines and wrinkles.

Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the fullness and shape of the lips. There are several methods available, including dermal fillers, and sometimes botulinum toxin. The best approach depends on the individual’s specific goals and the desired results.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It involves making small incisions in the skin through which a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) is inserted to suction out the fat. Liposuction is commonly used to improve the contour of the hips, thighs, abdomen, arms, neck, and chin. It can also be used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to enhance their results.

Loose Skin

Loose skin, or skin laxity, is a common concern for many people as they age. It is often the result of weight loss, aging, or changes in skin elasticity. There are several cosmetic procedures that can tighten loose skin, including dermal fillers, laser treatments, and surgery. In many cases, surgery is the most effective way to address loose skin, particularly when it affects large areas of the body such as the face or arms.

Male Cosmetic Enhancement

Male cosmetic enhancement refers to the use of cosmetic procedures to improve physical appearance in men. The most common procedures include hair restoration, skin rejuvenation, and body contouring. Non-surgical treatments such as botulinum toxin and dermal fillers are also popular among men, as they offer quick and non-invasive solutions for wrinkles, facial lines, and other signs of aging. In addition, many men seek body contouring procedures, such as liposuction, to improve their physique and address areas of stubborn fat.

Neck Rejuvenation

Neck rejuvenation refers to a variety of cosmetic procedures aimed at improving the appearance of the neck area. The most common neck rejuvenation procedures include neck lift, botulinum toxin, and laser resurfacing or microneedling. These procedures are designed to address concerns such as sagging skin and wrinkles in the neck area. Neck rejuvenation can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, such as facelift or brow lift, to enhance overall facial rejuvenation.

Redness

Redness, or skin flushing, can be caused by a variety of factors including rosacea, sun exposure, and skin irritation. While some redness is temporary and can be treated with a customized skincare regimen, persistent redness can be frustrating and difficult to conceal. There are several cosmetic treatments available to reduce redness, including laser therapy. In some cases, prescription medications may also be necessary to manage the underlying cause of redness.

Scarring

Scarring is a common side effect of injury, surgery, or acne. There are several cosmetic treatments available to improve the appearance of scars, including laser therapy, intralesional injections for thick scars or keloids, and silicone sheets. In many cases, a combination of treatments may be necessary to achieve the best results.

Skin Texture

Skin texture refers to the appearance and feel of the skin, including its smoothness, roughness, and bumpiness. Factors such as aging, sun exposure, and hormonal changes can affect skin texture and lead to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and rough patches. There are several cosmetic treatments available to improve skin texture, including chemical peels, laser therapy, and microneedling. These treatments work by removing dead skin cells, stimulating collagen production, and improving skin hydration.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are small, red, blue, or purple veins that are commonly found on the legs, thighs, and face. They are caused by the dilation of small veins close to the surface of the skin. Spider veins can be hereditary and can also be caused by factors such as hormonal changes, pregnancy, sun exposure, and obesity. They can be treated with sclerotherapy, which is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting a solution into the veins to make them collapse and disappear. Laser therapy is another minimally invasive option for treating spider veins.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are lines or streaks that occur on the skin due to rapid stretching of the skin. They are common during pregnancy, puberty, and periods of rapid weight gain or loss. Stretch marks are typically red or purple when they first appear, but over time they can fade to a white color. They can appear anywhere on the body, but are most common on the abdomen, hips, thighs, and breasts. There is no cure for stretch marks, but they can be treated with topical creams, laser therapy, and microneedling.

Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a common condition that involves grinding or clenching of the teeth. It can cause a number of oral health problems, including worn down teeth, jaw pain, and headaches. Teeth grinding can be caused by stress, anxiety, and certain medications, and can also be a side effect of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. In addition to treatments recommended by your dentist, treatment for teeth grinding may involve botulinum toxin, and managing stress and anxiety.

Under Eye Rejuvenation

Under eye rejuvenation is a cosmetic procedure that is designed to treat signs of aging around the eyes, such as dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles. It can be performed with a variety of techniques, including dermal fillers, laser therapy, microneedling, and sometimes surgery.

Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are swollen and twisted veins that typically occur in the legs and feet. They are caused by weak or damaged valves in the veins, which prevent blood from flowing properly. Varicose veins can cause pain, swelling, and skin changes and are often a cosmetic concern.

There are several treatment options available for varicose veins, including lifestyle changes, compression stockings, and minimally invasive procedures. Lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise and weight management, can help improve circulation and alleviate symptoms. Compression stockings can also help reduce swelling and discomfort.

Minimally invasive procedures, such as sclerotherapy for the right candidates can help alleviate the unsightly veins. Recovery time is usually short, and most patients can return to normal activities within a few days. Minimally invasive varicose vein treatments are highly effective and have a low risk of complications.

Cosmetic
Treatments

Neuromodulators

Dermatology neuromodulators, such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxify are injectable treatments that can temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by muscle movement. They work by blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles, which reduces muscle activity and softens the appearance of wrinkles. These treatments are commonly used to improve the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes and mouth. They can also be used for facial slimming, hyperhidrosis, neck rejuvenation, and to treat excessive sweating, migraines, and grinding of the teeth. Dermatology neuromodulators are a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment that can provide quick and noticeable results with minimal recovery time. Results can last anywhere from three to six months, depending on the neuromodulator used.

Filler

Fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, and Sculptra, and Radiesse are injectable treatments that are used to add volume and fullness to the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and facial contours. Fillers are made of different materials, including hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid, each with their own unique properties. Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body, helps to hydrate and plump the skin. They can be used to add volume to the cheeks, lips, and temples, as well as to smooth out wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Fillers can also be used to enhance the shape of the jawline and/or chin, scars, for hand rejuvenation, undereye hallows, and to correct asymmetry in the face. They are a non-surgical and non-invasive alternative to facelift and other more invasive procedures. The results of fillers are immediate and can last from 6 months to 1 year depending on the type of filler used and the area treated.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment used to treat spider veins, which are small, dilated blood vessels that can be seen through the skin. The procedure involves injecting a solution called a sclerosant into the affected vein to cause it to collapse and eventually fade away. The solution causes the vein to shrink and eventually disappear. Sclerotherapy is typically performed in a doctor’s office, and multiple injections may be needed to achieve the desired results. The procedure is generally well-tolerated and has minimal recovery time. It’s important to note that it is not suitable for all types of varicose veins and some patients with varicose veins may require more invasive treatments.

Platelet-Rich Plasma for Hair Loss

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a treatment that uses a patient’s own blood plasma, which is high in platelets, to promote hair growth. The process begins with the patient having their blood drawn, which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the other components of the blood. The concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp in the areas of hair loss.

The platelets in the PRP contain growth factors that can stimulate the growth of new hair and improve the overall health of existing hair. The treatment is thought to in part, work by promoting blood flow to the hair follicles, which can help to nourish and revitalize them, leading to improved hair growth.

PRP hair loss treatment is considered safe and effective, with minimal side effects. Multiple sessions are usually needed to achieve optimal results. Also, it may not work for everyone and the results may vary depending on the individual’s case. It’s always recommended to consult a hair loss specialist like a dermatologist before starting any treatment.

Microneedling with or without Platelet-Rich Plasma

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create small punctures in the skin. The needles are used to create controlled injuries in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing process and leads to the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that give skin its firmness and elasticity.

When performed alone, microneedling can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin imperfections. However, when combined with the use of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), the treatment can become even more effective.

PRP is a concentrated solution made from a patient’s own blood plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors. When PRP is applied to the skin during microneedling, it can penetrate deep into the skin and help to boost the stimulation of new collagen and elastin, leading to a more youthful and radiant appearance.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that uses a chemical solution to remove the top layers of skin. They are used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne, age spots, and other skin imperfections.

There are different types of chemical peels, including:

• Superficial peels: These peels use mild acids, such as glycolic or lactic acid, to remove the outermost layer of skin. They are used to improve the appearance of fine lines, acne, and uneven skin tone.

• Medium peels: These peels use stronger acids, such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA), to penetrate deeper into the skin. They are used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, and acne scars.

The recovery time varies depending on the type of peel, but usually, it takes between 3-7 days.

Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves moving hair follicles from one area of the scalp (the “donor site”) to another area (the “recipient site”) where there is thinning or baldness. The most common technique used for hair transplantation is called Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

FUT, also known as the “strip method,” involves removing a strip of skin from the donor site, usually at the back of the head, and then dividing it into small grafts, each containing one or a few hair follicles. The grafts are then transplanted to the recipient site, where they will grow into new hair.

FUE, on the other hand, involves removing individual hair follicles from the donor site, one at a time, using a small punch tool. The hair follicles are then transplanted to the recipient site.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and may take several hours to complete. Recovery time varies depending on the technique used, but most people can return to work within a few days. The transplanted hair will fall out within the first 2-3 weeks after the procedure, but new hair growth should start to appear within 3-4 months and will continue to grow for up to a year.

Acne Scarring Treatments

Acne scarring can be a frustrating and persistent problem for many individuals who have had acne in the past. Fortunately, there are several treatments available that can help reduce the appearance of acne scars. One popular treatment is laser therapy, which stimulates the growth of new collagen, resulting in smoother and more even-looking skin. Another option is microneedling, which involves using tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the production of collagen and elastin. Chemical peels and dermabrasion are also effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars by removing the top layer of damaged skin. For more severe scarring, surgical procedures such as punch excision and subcision may be necessary to physically remove or loosen scar tissue.

The appropriate technique will depend on the type, size, location and age of the scar, as well as the patient’s individual needs and expectations.

Recovery time varies depending on the technique used and multiple treatments may be needed. It’s important to note that while scar revision can improve the appearance of a scar, it may not completely remove it.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a technique that was developed by a dermatologist named Dr. Jeffrey Klein in the mid-1980s. It is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is used to remove unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck. It’s considered as a more gentle method of liposuction as it uses a large amount of diluted local anesthesia, called tumescent solution, injected into the area where the fat is to be removed. This solution causes the fat to become swollen and firm (tumescent) before it is removed.

During the procedure, a thin tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions in the skin and used to suction out the fat. Tumescent liposuction typically results in less bleeding, swelling, and bruising compared to traditional liposuction. The tumescent technique is also favored over the traditional technique because traditional liposuction is performed under general anesthesia, and carries the risks associated with being put to sleep, such as allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and blood clots.

However, as with any surgical procedure, there are some risks involved, including infection, bleeding, and uneven contouring. Also, it’s important to note that the procedure is not a weight loss method, it’s intended to remove small areas of fat and should be performed on individuals who are close to their ideal body weight.

Kybella

Kybella is a non-surgical, injectable treatment that is used to reduce the appearance of submental fullness, also known as “double chin.” It is made of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to break down and absorb fat.

Kybella is used to target and destroy fat cells in the submental area, resulting in a reduction of fullness under the chin. During the treatment, small injections of Kybella are made into the submental area, destroying the fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they cannot store or accumulate fat, resulting in a slimmer and more defined jawline.

The procedure can be performed in-office. Multiple treatments may be needed to achieve the desired results. The most common side effects are swelling, pain, and numbness, which typically resolve within a few days.

Eyelid Augmentation

Eyelid augmentation surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that is used to improve the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids. The surgery involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids in order to improve their appearance.

Upper eyelid surgery is typically done to correct drooping or sagging upper eyelids that can make a person look older or more tired. The procedure can also improve vision in cases where the excess skin is obstructing the field of vision. Lower eyelid surgery is typically done to correct puffiness, bags or wrinkles on the lower eyelids.

Eyelid surgery is typically done on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient goes home the same day as the surgery. The procedure is done under local anesthesia. Recovery time can vary, but patients typically experience some swelling and bruising for a few weeks after the surgery. The final results of the surgery may take several months to be fully visible.

Facelift

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that is designed to tighten and lift sagging skin on the face and neck. During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions around the hairline and ear area and removes excess skin and fat before repositioning the remaining tissue to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The procedure can also involve tightening the underlying muscles to provide additional support and longevity to the results.

Lip Lift

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that is used to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by shortening the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision just below the nostrils and removes a small amount of skin before lifting and suturing the remaining tissue in a more elevated position. This procedure can help create a fuller, more youthful upper lip and can be performed alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures.

Brow Lift

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten the skin on the forehead and brow area, creating a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions either at the hairline or within the hair-bearing scalp and removes excess tissue before repositioning the remaining skin and muscles. This can help to smooth out wrinkles and lines on the forehead and improve the appearance of drooping eyebrows or a heavy brow ridge.

There are different techniques for performing a brow lift, including the traditional coronal brow lift, endoscopic brow lift, and temporal brow lift, and the technique used will depend on the patient’s individual needs and goals. Recovery time can vary, but most patients are able to return to their normal activities within a week or two after the procedure. A brow lift can provide long-lasting results and can help to improve the overall appearance of the face.
